Set at the north-west end of the Gulf of , Gocek is blessed with
magnificent scenery. Backed by majestic mountains and substantial
pine forests it looks out over the Twelve Islands, which provide
shelter for Gocek's almost circular bay that has made the village
such a perfect, natural harbor. Lured by such perfection, the yachting
community has long made Gocek a favorite, and it is also a popular
stop for gullet cruises.
Perhaps this explains Gocek's impressive range of facilities for
a place that remains so blissfully unspoiled: there are only a handful
of small hotels and pensions, yet all along the wide, landscaped
promenade that fringes the quayside, there are plenty of eateries,
from simple cafes to excellent restaurants specializing in delicious
fresh fish. In the back streets and around the old village square
by the mosque, there is a surprising array of interesting craft
shops. |
12
Island Cruise
Take a day for a boat trip. The 12 Island Cruise takes you around
the bay of Fethiye and includes about 5 stops at (secluded) bays & islands
like Cleopatra's Bath, Gobun & Pine bays, Dockyard, Flat, Katranci & Gocek
Islands.
All with beautifull clean and clear wate to swim and snorkel in. The cruise
starts early in the morning and ends when the evening falls. Around the
Fethiye harbour there are numerous boats you can get on for these trips,
they usually include a breakfast/lunch and drinks. When you do decide
to take a 12 Island Cruise, keep your eyes open, you have the chance to
see dolphins, flying fish, and even sea turtles.
Dalyan
The village of Dalyan is based on a river, surrounded by lush
green fields breaking into spectacular mountain ranges. On the opposite
side of the river is the ancient city of Caunos that is debatably the
second greatest archaeological site in Turkey. Only 10% of the city has
been unearthed and every year more and more treasures are discovered.
The area around Dalyan has some of the widest variety of wildlife to be
found in Turkey, including some species of birds not found elsewhere in
the world. Around Daylan you can go trekking, go on jeep safaris, white
water rafting, mountain biking, canyoning, sea kayaking, enduro motocross
riding, paragliding, diving, horse riding, sea fishing, snorkeling, take
a mud bath, and many more sedantry things such as shopping in local markets,
turkish massages and simply lying on the beach.
Fetiye
Fethiye is a pretty town at the hillsides of the Mount Mendos,
the part of the Tourus Mountain chains, and surrounds the bay that it
has given its name to. The high mountain range formed by rises and falls
of the crust during the Tertiary Geological Period, and hundreds of bays
lying at the mountainside seem to embrace each other along the Fethiye
shore line. Due to the prevailing climatic conditions in the region the
pine forrests are elaborate and the flora in this region is amazing. To
wander through the bays of Fethiye is an adventure, an exuberance. While
passing from one to another, the grandeur that spreads out before your
eyes is enhanced by the silhouettes of tiny islands, which lead you astray.
