As the summer is definately here and the streets of Didim/Altinkum are filled with tourists; Didim's newspaper stated earlier this week that the hassle is becomming too big a problem....I think they are right.

You cannot walk the street without somebody shouting 'hey love' at you or pulling your arm to come into their restaurant.

In some resort there is no hassling at all, and what nobody seems to understand is that you are actually scaring tourist off with these tactics.

[from the Didymian]
************
In Altinkum, hassle is disturbing the tourists. Although in all touristics resorts of Turkey the local authorities are putting strict laws against hassle, Altinkum is having a huge problem which is increasing every day.

It is being said by tourists that it is impossible to walk along the promenade. "It is really annoying that every ten paces somebody pounces on you! If you do not shake their hand they say you are unsociable, and they are quite rude" said a british tourist who had visited Altinkum for the first time. He underlined " I ike the town and it's nature. It is fabulous. But I do not think I will come here again because of this hassle."

Another tourist said: "I wanted to buy some presents for my friends at home but becuase of the hassle boys I can not look to think about what I actually want to buy"

The officials of Didim said to the Didymian that they are aware of the problem and they will enforce strict punishments for hassling. On the other hand in another tourism resort of Turkey (Kusadasi) hidden cameras are being put to find people who are hasseling.

The bar and restaurant owners in Altinkum say that the only reason that they use these tactics is because the other bar and restaurant owners do the same. "We will be quite happy to obey the restrictions if everyone else follows. However nobody is controlling so we are continuing" said a restaurant owner who did not want his name mentioned.

We spend more time in the town of didum than we do in altinkum because in didum the prices are better and you get alot less hassle ,There are some good DIY & kitchen shops where you can buy everything you need for your apartment.
