Is there a limit to how many people can purchase a property?

No

A property can be in multiple peoples name. All people have to sign for the sales agreement and all peoples names will be on the TAPU.

IMPORTANT: ALL PEOPLE ALSO NEED TO SIGN FOR RECEIPT OF TAPU

This can be overcome by appointing Power of Attorney, so it is possible for only one person to sign on behalf of the others.
